It was initiated by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Society, Vladimir Putin, and the organizer was the Russian Geographical Society.

The average mark for dictation in Russia is only 55 points, in school terms, this is a three. It is even more sad that 48% of the protesters wrote a dictation below the average level, that is, they received a three with a minus or two.

The results of the dictation were taken into account by the Russian Geographical Society when preparing new Concept development geographic education, which is being developed by the Russian Geographical Society together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.

On the whole, the results of the first Geographical Dictation indicate that Russians have a very mediocre knowledge of the geography of their country, while schoolchildren and students demonstrated a level of geographical knowledge below the national average.

Young people know geography worse than people over 40, found out in the Russian Geographical Society

ALL-RUSSIAN GEOGRAPHIC DICTANT - 2016 was held today in all 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

This is the second All-Russian Geographical Dictation. It took place at specially prepared sites in universities, schools, libraries, research institutes, and children's centers. Almost 1.7 thousand sites for everyone.

The dictation took place for the first time in 2015. It was initiated by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Society, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, and the organizer was the Russian Geographical Society.

Deputy Executive Director of the Russian Geographical Society Ilya Gurov said that last year almost all young people wrote a dictation in two marks, that is, 48% of young guys scored less than 50 points, but people over forty who received their education back in the mid-1970s, scored 50-60 points.

The main building of the Moscow State University became the central platform for dictation in Moscow. M.V. Lomonosov, where the action was held by TV presenter Dmitry Guberniev. Famous scientists, TV presenters, athletes and public figures took part in the event.

President of the Russian Geographical Society, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu also took part in the All-Russian Geographical Dictation.
He also added that one cannot prepare for such questions overnight.
The President of the Russian Geographical Society thanked the Rector of Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy for the hospitality, as well as everyone who takes part in the dictation.

The dictation was compiled in three versions for the regions of Central Russia, Siberia and the Far East. Each of them includes 30 tasks, which are conventionally divided into three blocks. The first consists of questions on the knowledge of geographic concepts and terms; the second is aimed at testing knowledge about the location of geographic objects on the map; the third proposes to find out the geographical object by excerpts from works of art... The maximum score that can be obtained for a dictation is 100 points.

One of the main principles of the campaign is anonymity. On the forms of tasks and answers, you do not need to indicate your name. Participants were asked to write only age, occupation, attitude to geography (for example, a student or teacher of a specialized university) and some other information. This information is necessary in order to evaluate and analyze the results obtained.

A list of regional sites with addresses is published on the website of the Russian Geographical Society. Also, if you sent an application for registration of a regional site to the address [email protected] and did not find your organization in the list of sites, or if you have not received the forms for questions and instructions for organizing the Dictation, you can call the phones listed on the site.
